A good skincare regimen is important especially if you wear makeup everyday or just want to achieve and maintain clear skin. After years of trying out different products, both high-end and drugstore, I have found a skincare regimen that works for me. As a side note, I love Korean skin products and found that they work really well on my skin. With that said, a lot of the products I will be talking about come from Korean beauty brands. My skin type has changed going from oily to normal over the years and from different skincare routines. We all have different skin types so I cannot guarantee my routine will work for everyone. However, these are products that have helped me achieve clear and brighter skin.
Night Time Skincare Routine
Step 1: Makeup Remover
I generally use face wipes to remove makeup or if I am wearing heavy makeup I use the Mango Seed Cleansing Butter from The Face Shop. Most of the time, I use the face wipes earlier in the day before working out (I recommend doing this before a sweat session). I like these wipes from Nature Republic in particular because it does not irritate my skin, however Burt’s Bees and Face Shop wipes are also my favorite. The face wipes are ideal when I am not wearing much makeup or when removing stubborn eyeliner. I opt for the heavier duty cleansing butter to remove makeup when wearing a full face. The cleansing butter melts the makeup right off and smells great! I massage the butter into my skin without wetting my face and then rinse. Another good thing about the cleansing butter is that it is moisturizing but does not leave oily residue.
Step 2: Facial Cleanser & Exfoliator
After taking off all the on-the-surface makeup, it’s time for a deeper cleanse. I use the Argan foam facial cleanser from Nature Republic. This cleanser smells great and works up a nice lather. A small amount is enough to wash my entire face. I usually massage this into my skin using circular motions for a good 3 minutes with the Konjac Sponge with Activated Charcoal and cold water.
To exfoliate, I use the Conair Sonic Facial Cleansing system using the charcoal brushes. Usually, I only exfoliate 3 times a week. I apply my facial cleanser as normal and then use the facial brush for 10 seconds on each section of my face. Not only does this gently exfoliate my face, but it also provides a very deep cleanse and ideal for those heavy makeup days as well.
Step 3: Toner, Serum, & Moisturizer
To remove any lingering trace of dirt & oil, I apply Clinique’s clarifying lotion in 3. Because this toner is alcohol-based, it helps normalize my skin keeping it less oily. I don’t recommend this toner for those of you that are prone to dry skin because alcohol-based toners have that drying effect. But what I love about this is how refreshing it makes your skin feel afterwards. This might be too harsh for some people, but Clinique has less potent versions of their toner if you have combination-less oily skin.
One of the serums I use is the Custom-Repair serum from Clinique. This is the newest product I began using but I am loving it so far. I apply it to any blemishes, dark spots, and scars to correct any imperfections. I use a very tiny amount since the serum itself spreads really thinly. This serum helps repair any damage on my face and is very lightweight.
Finally, the last thing I do is apply Mizon’s snail recovery gel cream. I apply a dime sized amount to my fingertips and pat it on my face until it is fully absorbed. This is a great night time cream because it’s very light and does not leave my skin feeling oily. Also, ever since I began using this cream it has helped me achieve an even skin tone. It really feels like the gel cream is rejuvenating my skin overnight.
Morning & Weekly Skincare Routine
I usually don’t wash my face in the morning since I do everything at night and skip to applying serum & moisturizer before makeup. The serum I use in the morning is the Claire-ity Skincare 25% Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E. This serum feels more like a toner because of the Hyaluronic Acid, but it helps keep my skin from becoming oily. Also, the serum has that same refreshing quality that my Clinique toner has without drying the skin out. After applying the serum all over my face and neck, I move on to my favorite moisturizer which is Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion+™. Ever since high school, I have switched back and forth between moisturizers but have always returned to using this one. This does a great job of moisturizing your face if you use the right amount. Because my skin is prone to oiliness, I apply a dime sized amount to my entire face to obtain the perfect amount of moisture. I let the products settle for about 5 minutes before moving on to my morning makeup routine.
Weekly Clay Mask
Once a week, I put on the Pure Body Naturals Beauty Dead Sea Mud Mask after using face wash. Using a clean foundation brush, I apply an even layer on my face and wait a couple minutes for it to dry. I don’t like for it to dry completely to the point of it cracking, because that just dries the face out. Instead, I wait for it to dry until it feels pretty sticky, but doesn’t rub off. I cleanse with luke-warm to cold water and then apply my toner and moisturizer. This mask definitely makes my skin look more refreshed and brighter. It even helps with reducing any blemishes.
All products I have mentioned are listed below for your reference. If you could tell, a lot of these products calm down oily skin. However I would recommend the facial cleanser, makeup removers, and serums for most skin types. I would love to hear anyone’s input on what their favorite skin products are or if you have tried any of these! Also, I do change up my routine every so often so I am always on the hunt for great products.
